Frequently Asked Questions
What is the timeline like for one of your book projects?
It depends on what you’re looking for! We can be quick and nimble when we need to be, collecting all the important components (like photography and interviews) in a pinch. Alternatively, we can do a lot of advance planning, ensuring we capture big family moments or the time of year when your garden is in bloom. Project management is our bread and butter – so don’t be afraid to ask for delivery in a month or a year.
What is the cost? What is included in the basic package?
Every house and every family is different, so each project is uniquely quoted.
All packages include professional photography of the residence, interview(s) with the homeowners and/or family members, and a corresponding essay to be included in your book.
We incorporate research to complete the story – this might be about the house and town, genealogy of the family, or the art and artifacts you’ve collected over the years. This material is laid out by professional designers, then we deliver 10 one-of-a-kind art books.
What additional services does Housecraft Books offer?
You name it, we can probably do it! Every book project gives us new ideas - we love to bring that extra special something to each one. Some additional services might include:
An additional photography session to capture family members or the house in different seasons
Drone photography to capture the house or property from above
artifact photography to memorialize special objects
Scanning of up to 100 images from your family albums, etc.
Scanning of oversized materials (e.g., architectural drawings)
Custom illustrations, commissioned artwork, a section dedicated to family recipes, timelines, scavenger hunts, so on and so forth!
Cleaned version of audio files of interview
Additional books for your friends and family
Does my house need to be historic?
Absolutely not! In fact, we love modern design and architecture as much as we love history. At Housecraft, we believe every house has a story to tell – but what’s most important is your history in the house. Whether your house dates to the Revolutionary War or was designed and built in this millenium, we will give it the same thoughtful treatment.
Where are you based? Do you travel?
Our motto is: have house, will travel. While we’re based in New England, we are adventurous folks, eager to come to your neck of the woods. Contact us to discuss in detail.
Do you work with realtors, organizers, or downsizers?
Moving can be exciting and emotional. If you’re working with a client who could benefit from our services, we’d love to collaborate. We’re a nimble team and able to work with tricky timelines to provide homeowners with the ideal keepsake before they move on to their next space.
Do I need to “style” my house? Do you provide this service?
The goal of Housecraft Books is to capture how you and your loved ones live in your space. As part of the process, we provide you with some ideas about how to prepare for the house tour and photo shoot, and we will be on hand to ensure the most engaging images are captured. That being said, if you want your house to look like a spread from Architectural Digest, we can bring in our stylist to make it happen.
What if I live in an apartment or a tiny house?
A tiny house is Nicole’s dream. You’d be shocked to see what we can do with a small space. We promise to bring the same diligence to a smaller home or apartment as we do a large house and have inventive ways to capture what makes apartment living unique.
What will I do with my books?
Put one on the coffee table. Share with your children, your parents, your friends. Save a few copies for future generations. You’ll never regret capturing the way your family lives in a book format.
